The weekly basketball rankings brought a mixed bag for local teams this week, including a new arrival.
The Lady Wolves jumped back in front of Norman North for the No. 2 spot in 6A. The Lady Timberwolves lost to No. 8 Moore last week and Shawnee swept their home tournament before beating Guthrie Tuesday night. The 17-0 Lady Wolves are positioning themselves to host a Regional Tournament.
The Wolves also climbed from 20 to 19 despite losses to Stillwater and Southeast in their home tournament. Shawnee has two straight wins over Coweta and Guthrie to get things going in the right direction before a trip to Western Heights Friday.
Prague's Red Devils broke into the top 20 for the first time this year. They had won 10 straight games before a loss to 4A No. 15 Seminole in the conference tournament championship game. Prague, after being named the No. 19 team in 3A got back on track with a win over Stroud Tuesday night.
The Lady Red Devils stayed at No. 14 in 3A after sweeping through the conference tournament and they beat Stroud Tuesday, as well. Prague plays at Tecumseh Friday.
The Lady Pirates stayed No. 1 in 2A as Dale has now won 10-straight after its lone loss on the season. They beat 3A No. 6 Christian Heritage Tuesday night. The 10-1 Lady Pirates have a 12-1 record against Top 20 teams and they still have 2A No. 4 Vanoss (Feb. 5) and 4A No. 6 Newcastle on the schedule before the playoffs.
The Pirates are still near the top of the rankings, but recent slip-ups have dropped them to No. 4 in 2A even though they still received five first-place votes. The Pirates dropped their contest at Christian Heritage Tuesday and they aren't back in action until Tuesday's road trip to No. 2 Vanoss.
