A new special district judge has been selected to fill a vacant judge post for Pottawatomie and Lincoln Counties.
Pottawatomie County District Judge John G. Canavan Jr. said Tuesday he and Lincoln County District Judge Cynthia Ferrell Ashwood have hired Emily Mueller to serve as Special District Judge. She is expected to take the bench in early March, Canavan said.
A vacancy opened when former Special District Judge Tracy McDaniel defeated Kelli McCullar in the November election for Associate District Judge.
McDaniel took the bench in her new post earlier this month, replacing outgoing Associate District Judge Dawson Engle, who didn’t seek re-election.
Since McDaniel had been serving as a Special District Judge for both Pottawatomie and Lincoln Counties, that post was left vacant, leaving the two district judges tasked with hiring her replacement.
Mueller, of Shawnee, is currently an assistant district attorney in District 24 in Okemah, which is in Okfuskee County. According to her resume, she also was previously an assistant district attorney for five years in Lincoln County.
She has a Juris Doctorate degree from The University of Oklahoma College of Law.
