TECUMSEH—Clean sweep. The Tecumseh Savages and Lady Savages swept the Prague hoop squads, Friday night, in two tight contests. Tecumseh downed the Lady Red Devils 40-36 before the Savages held on to a 58-56 victory.
In the opener, the Lady Savages and Lady Red Devils slugged it out for four quarters. Tecumseh led 9-6 after the first quarter then trailed by a single digit at the half, 20-19.
Prague’s Caya Wright scored 13 of the Lady Red Devils 20 first half points. The Lady Savages balanced scoring attack saw five different scorers scratch in the opening half.
Prague continued to hold the slim one point lead through the third quarter, and took a 28-27 lead into the final eight minutes of play.
There were five ties and three lead changes in the second half.
The final tie came at the 1:40 mark of the fourth, when Taylor Hodges hit the second of two free throws to knot the score at 35-35.
Tecumseh’s Addison Day broke the tie, for good, when she hit a free throw with :56 left. The Lady Savages hit four out of their next six free throws to hold off the Class 3A 14th ranked Red Devils. Addison Day led Tecumseh in scoring with 13 points. Schantel Evans notched eight points and Katelyn LaFrance was big off of the bench with six.
Wright finished with 22 points for Prague. Hodges added eight for the Lady Red Devils who are now 15-5 on the year.
The Lady Savages improve to 10-11.
The boys’ game was just as tight, for the first half. The Savages led 12-11 after the first quarter and increased it by a point to 29-27 at the half. Tecumseh and Prague each hit four three-pointers in the opening half.
The third quarter belonged to Tecumseh. The Savages outscored Prague 13-6 to take a 42-33 lead. Tecumseh received a big lift from Payden Clutter, who came off of the bench, due to some foul trouble. Clutter scored six points to help build the lead.
The fourth quarter found the Savages hanging on for the win from the charity stripe. Tecumseh hit 12-of-15 from the line to keep the Red Devils at arms length.
Jacob Green led Tecumseh in scoring with 14 and hit the five of free throws in the final minute of play.
Prague hit two treys in the final nine seconds of the game to get the final count to a two-point final.
Isaac Bloomer led the scoring for Prague, with 14 points. Brady Thorpe added 10, while Zadden Jones and Haden Hale each chipped in with eight.
Green Led the savages with 14 points and Kainan Ryan scored 13. Jayden Shafer scored 10 points and hauled in several key rebounds for the Savages. Josiah Mendoza netted nine.
The Red Devils drop to 15-5 on the season while the Savages move to a 13-8 mark.
Prague will host Seminole Tuesday night while the Tecumseh squads will travel to face McLoud.
