Aubrey “Monk” Butler, age 87, left his family to join his family in Heaven on Saturday morning, Feb. 2, 2019, after a long illness.

Aubrey “Monk” Butler, age 87, left his family to join his family in Heaven on Saturday morning, Feb. 2, 2019, after a long illness.

He was born in Paducah, Texas, to Jesse James Butler and Myrtle Elizabeth (Carter) Butler and was the youngest of eight Butler children.

Monk enlisted in the Army at age 19. He proudly served his country in combat service during the Korean War as a member the famous “Fighting 45th Infantry Division.” Later, he retired military civilian from Tinker Air Force Base with high honors.

Monk married Thelda Joy Copeland, and together they have a loving and devoted family of three children, Joy, Robert and William, as well as eight grandsons and nine great-grandchildren.

Service will be 2 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 9, at Cooper Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Larry Sparks, Blackburn Chapel Baptist Church, and Robert Butler officiating. Burial will follow at Brown Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
