VANOSS — Class 2A fourth-ranked Dale, propelled by the offense of freshman Trae Thompson, sophomore Gabe Gouge and senior Logan Woodruff, riddled second-ranked Vanoss 71-53 Tuesday night.

Thompson recorded 21 points while Gouge and Woodruff netted 20 apiece as Dale improved to 17-6.

Woodruff knocked down two field goals from beyond the arc and was 6 of 6 at the charity stripe. Gouge hit 6-of-8 free throws as Dale finished at 15 of 22.

Vanoss was 5 of 10 from the line.

Dale never trailed after opening an 18-7 margin after one quarter.

Sando Hill of Vanoss accumulated seven 3-pointers en route to a game-high 32 points.

It was the first matchup of the year between the two squads.

“I am proud of the kids,” Dale coach Jeff Edmonson said. “We had a lot of defensive intensity and effort from start to finish.”

Girls

Fourth-ranked Vanoss, with three players scoring in double figures, toppled top-ranked Dale 56-46.

Vanoss outscored Dale 50-39 over the last three quarters.

Junior Lindy Nowakowski was Dale’s only double-figure scorer with 13. Sophomore Danyn Lang and senior Lacey Savage contributed eight points apiece. Maddie Degraffenreid posted two 3-point field goals.

“We didn’t shoot the ball very well and they played well,” Dale coach Eric Smith said. “Our post defense wasn’t very good.”

Dale was 11 of 17 from the line. Vanoss was just one of nine.

Dale, 20-2, hadn’t suffered a loss since a 53-51 decision to Latta Jan. 4.Vanoss is 20-4.

Wewoka will visit Dale Friday night.
