OKEMAH — A poor start was too much for Meeker’s girls to overcome as Okemah rang up a 53-37 victory Tuesday night.

Okemah took advantage of six Meeker turnovers in the first quarter to open a 16-5 lead. The hosts led 32-16 at the break.

Melanie Culp, a 5-5 senior, was Meeker’s high scorer with 13. Sophomore Callie Sellers had 10 and Lexi Lopez chipped in with eight.

Okemah received double-figure scoring from Sophie Turner (16), Abby Harelson (12) and Morgan Bean (11).

Culp, Sellers and Lopez notched one 3-point field goal each. Culp also collared eight rebounds.

Okemah played without its starting point guard because of a knee injury.

Meeker was 4 of 6 from the line while Okemah was 9 of 15.


Meeker dropped to 6-14 on the season with a 97-53 setback to Okemah.

Okemah is ranked 13th in Class 2A.

Meeker will entertain Luther Friday.
