At about 2 p.m. Wednesday afternoon, firefighters were called to put out a grass fire along Valley View Road just south of Benson Park Road. At around 4:30 p.m. an Earlsboro firefighter said the blaze had been contained, but that crews were still monitoring a couple hay bales that had caught fire.

Earlsboro Fire Chief Jarrod Romburg estimated 50 to 60 acres burned, but said no structures were damaged. It appears someone was welding outside and sparks ignited the grass, the chief added.
