John Goodnight, 79-year-old Seminole resident, passed from this life on Monday, March 4, 2019, at Seminole Care and Rehabilitation Center.

Johnny “Leroy” Goodnight, 79-year-old Seminole resident, passed from this life Monday, March 4, 2019, at Seminole Care and Rehabilitation Center.

He was born April 4, 1939, in Shawnee to Johnny Orvil Goodnight and Lela (Knight) Goodnight. He was raised by his grandparents Hope and Sadie Knight in Wewoka.

Leroy graduated from Butner High School in 1956. He worked for various oil companies throughout the years. He also worked for Kelsey Hayes and retired from the Goff Corporation in Seminole after working there for 18 years.

Leroy married Alice Irene Long on Aug. 6, 1959, in Wewoka.

Leroy was a true outdoorsman who enjoyed driving around local lakes, fishing, hunting, hiking, playing guitar and spending time with his kids and grandkids.

Leroy leaves to cherish his memory one son and daughter-in-law, David and Cindy Goodnight of Wewoka, one sister, Melva “Bobbie” Chamberlin and her husband Russ of Sacramento, California, a special aunt, Pauline Shepherd of Wewoka, three grandchildren, Clarissa Draa of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Cara Forbis of Wewoka, and Alyssa Goodnight of Seminole, seven great-grandchildren and a host of other family and dear friends.

Leroy was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, by his wife of 41 years, Alice Goodnight, who died Sept. 12, 2000, by one son, Don Goodnight, who died Aug. 16, 2009, and by one grandson, Brandon Scott Goodnight, who died on Dec. 16, 2016.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Friday, March 8, at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole with Rev. Carl Whitfield and Pastor Jimmy Moreland officiating the service. Interment will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in Seminole, where Leroy will be laid to rest by his wife Alice.

Casket bearers will be Keith Forbis, Rayce Forbis, Johnathan McCracken, Doug Patterson, Steve Patterson and Jimmy Long.

Funeral services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole.
