LD Brown, 81, of Macomb, passed away Saturday, March 2, 2019, in Mesa, Arizona.
LD Brown passed away on March 2, 2019, in Mesa, Arizona. He was 81.
He was born Dec. 6, 1937, in Putnam, Oklahoma, the son of Alvin and Mattie Brown. LD was the oldest of his siblings, sisters Connie and Eva, and a brother, Alvin.
He graduated from Putnam High School and attended Southwestern Oklahoma State College (University) in Weatherford.
He enlisted and served in the Air Force for four years.
While stationed in Abilene, Texas, he met and later married Joyce McCollum in 1958. He and Joyce had two children, Debbie and Larry. He worked and continued his education at Central State College (University of Central Oklahoma) in Edmond.
LD and Joyce raised their family in central Oklahoma, first Oklahoma City, and later Macomb. LD worked at Tinker Air Force Base until his retirement as a civilian project manager engaged in the development of highly classified missile programs.
LD and Joyce were members of Etowah Baptist Church, where he taught the adult Sunday School class for many years. Their family enjoyed marriages and the addition of three grandchildren, Lindsay, Zachary, and Kayla. Following her struggle with cancer, Joyce passed away in 2000.
LD met Maryrose Lenz from Early, Iowa, and they married 2003, immediately increasing his family with addition of five step sons, Randy, Larry, Doug, Scott, and Chris Lenz, and their spouses. This extended family consists of 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He and Maryrose spent the winter season in Mesa, Arizona, at the View Point Retirement Community where LD loved to play softball, golf, darts, and many other social activities. During the warmer months they split time at their farms in Macomb, Oklahoma, and Early, Iowa. There LD enjoyed working the farms and gardening.
LD adored his grandchildren. Whether in Oklahoma, Iowa, Nebraska, or Arizona, he always made it a point to be present at their musical performances, sporting events, and other special family moments.
LD was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Brown; his parents, Alvin and Mattie Brown; sister, Connie McCoy; and brothers-in-law, Arnold McCoy and George Cook.
LD is survived by his wife, Maryrose Lenz Brown of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Bob Searl of Oklahoma City; son, Larry Brown and Janice Clawson of Macomb; foster son, Ronnie Couch of Moore; step-sons, Randy Lenz and Dawn, Larry Lenz and Rhonda, Doug Lenz and Paige Rainey Swaine, Chris Lenz and Stacy, and Scott Lenz and Dawn; sister, Eva Cook of Tomball, Texas; brother and sister-in-law, Alvin and Ann Brown of Noble; 17 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and countless friends.
LD left a legacy of being an incredible husband, father, step-father, grandfather and friend. He will be deeply missed.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday, March 8, and continue through service time. Family gathering to greet friends and will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, March 8, at Cooper Funeral Home. Service will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 9, at University Baptist Church in Shawnee with Dr. Bob Searl, Spring Creek Baptist Church, Oklahoma City, officiating. Committal services will be 12:30 p.m., Saturday, March 9, at Brown Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
