EDMOND – Dale bowed out of the Class 2A State Tournament with a 50-44 loss to No. 9 Rejoice Christian Thursday afternoon at Edmond North High School.
Dale’s Trae Thompson made a layup with time expiring in the first quarter, making it a 13-11 advantage for Rejoice.
The Pirates managed to take a lead on the teams second buzzer beater of the half. Brady Johnson converted a layup to give Dale a 25-23 lead.
Rejoice Christian’s Reece Hamar led all scorers with 11 points in the first half.
Dale’s Gabe Gouge was a close second with 10 points. Gouge converted all five of his shot attempts. The senior ended with a team-high 15 points.
The Pirates were outscored 12-7 in the third quarter, giving Rejoice Christian a 35-32 lead after three quarters.
With 1:45 left in the game, Logan Woodruff knocked down a three-pointer to give the Pirates the momentary lead.
Rejoice Christian’s next trip resulted in a long distance trey from Hamar, giving the Eagles a 44-42 lead.
Hamar led all scorers with 24 points. The senior guard canned 6 three-pointers. Jaden Lietzke added 17 points for the Eagles.
Trae Thompson and Logan Woodruff each scored 10 points in the losing effort.
Dale ends its season with a 22-7 record.
