YUKON – Dale dominated from start to finish in a 76-51 rout of Chouteau-Maize in the opening round of the Class 2A state tournament Thursday evening.
Dale started the game on a 9-2 run and never looked back. By the end of the first quarter the Lady Pirates led 20-10. Lindy Nowakowski led Dale with nine points in the first frame.
In the second quarter, Chouteau-Maize closed the gap by one point, but trailed 35-26 at intermission.
Dale struggled at the charity stripe in the first half, knocking down 4 of 9 throws. Otherwise it was a sound first half. The Lady Pirates recorded 11 rebounds in the first half, six coming at the offensive end.
Coach Eric Smith was pleased with the defensive performance in the half as the team recorded five steals.
Lacey Savage led the Lady Pirates with 12 points in the first half.
Danyn Lang knocked down a buzzer beater at the end of the third quarter to help Dale take a 52-38 lead.
Lindy Nowakowski and Brenlee Sheppard each scored 20 points to lead the Lady Pirates.
Lacey Savage played a great game scoring 12 points and grabbing 7 rebounds. She also drew three offensive fouls, frustrating the Chouteau-Maize offense.
Elaine Witt was the fourth Lady Pirate in double figures with 10 points.
Dale will face Latta Friday at 7 p.m. at Yukon High School.
