In an effort to promote local artists and community while celebrating Shawnee Mall's 30th anniversary, Mindy Palmer, the mall's marketing director, and several area artists have begun a monthly exhibition of works at the mall.

Artist Sebrina Lynam said the group has established the first Thursday of each month, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., to exhibit works at the retail complex.

Palmer said the endeavor is a great way to promote local art and offer warm, dry space to present the public displays. She said from January to October, the group could enjoy the available mall aisle space to feature their talents.

From metal sculptures to paintings, mixed media and jewelry, a large variety of offerings were arrayed.

Thursday was the collaboration's second showing, with almost a dozen tables lining the center breezeway.

Lynam said many of Thursday's artists were new to the show, compared to those who exhibited at the first-ever viewing last month.

Palmer said having a great variety of artists was a plus, as each month would offer new and different pieces to view.

Many of the works are available for sale.

The next art show is slated from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, April 4.
