ADA — Tecumseh’s Savages, behind a five-run third inning, captured their 2019 season opener with a 5-3 decision over Ada Thursday.

Down 3-0 entering the top of the third, Tecumseh received RBI doubles from Jayden Shafer and Caleb Kelsey to go along with a 2-run single by Kane Ainesworth.

Shafer went 2 for 4 on the day with two doubles as the visitors finished with five hits.

Savage pitching starter Tyler Thompson, who permitted two runs in three innings, got the victory. Thompson allowed six hits, fanned five and walked three.

Colby Trammell, who went the final four innings, didn’t walk a batter, fanned seven and gave up three hits.

“Trammell gave us four solid, quality innings,” Tecumseh coach Jeff Shafer said. “He didn’t walk anybody and was constantly ahead in the count.”

“Our defense played really well. We had a big double play in the seventh inning when they had no outs and two runners on.”

Manny LeValley and Zac Carroll had two hits apiece for Ada, which stranded 11 baserunners.

Tecumseh will be at McLoud today at 4:30. The Savages will play their home opener at 1 p.m. Saturday against Vian.
