NOBLE — Shawnee’s soccer teams split with Noble Thursday night.
The Wolves improved to 5-0 with a 3-0 win over the Bears. The Lady Wolves fell to 2-4 with a disappointing 1-0 loss.
The Lady Wolves dominated the first half of play. They had several shots just miss finding the back of the net. Hailey Satterfield hit several shots from long distance that were saved by Noble’s keeper. Hope Young had two good chances at the goal, one just missed and another hit the crossbar and ricocheted back into play.
Braunya Lewis kept things in hand for the Lady Wolves with a few nice saves before a wild exchange in the box that resulted in Shawnee being called for a foul and Noble being awarded a penalty kick with 25:19 left in the game. Sammi Allen nailed the penalty kick into the top right corner to give the Lady Bears the lead.
Shawnee had several more chances, including one set of three straight corner kicks with 21 minutes left in the game. The Lady Wolves couldn’t convert any of their chances and lost a tough decision 1-0.
The Wolves got off to a fast start. On a throw in, Daniel King collected the ball and angled a powerful shot past the Noble keeper for a 1-0 lead less than two minutes into the game.
That was the only goal in the first half but Shawnee would get two more in the second half. Kossi Kodoe scored with 35 minutes left in the game on an assist from Josh Floyd. Ben Spencer got the third goal unassisted with nine minutes left in the second half. Sebastian Rodriguez had five saves in goal for Shawnee.
The teams host Tulsa Union Friday night at home. The Wolves are facing last year’s state champion. Union won the title in 2018 and finished the year nationally ranked.
Union is 2-1 on the year with a season-opening loss to Jenks and wins over Broken Arrow and Norman North.
