McALESTER – Shawnee opened up the McAlester Shootout with a 8-3 triumph over Claremore Thursday afternoon.
Shawnee scored three runs in the second inning before Claremore tied it up in the third. The Wolves answered back with two runs in the fourth and three in the fifth.
As a team, the Wolves piled up 12 hits. Scout Cawvey, Austin Wood, Austin Gonzales and Krew Taylor totaled two hits each. Cawvey and Wood led the club with two RBIs apiece.
Creed Killgore and Jacob hill drove in one run each.
Jeret Johnson had one hit.
Nick Bowlan started the game on the mound for Shawnee and didn't factor into the decision. He went 1 for 3 at the plate with one RBI and two free passes.
Wood earned the victory, pitching four innings in relief.
Cawvey stole a team-leading three bases. Killgore and Hill added two each. Trenton Skinner, Carson Payne and Taylor stole one base.
Shawnee beat Duncan 11-7 in the first game of the day.
Cawvey went 3 for 4 and drove in two runs.
Hill, Gonzales and Johnson added multi-hit games for the Wolves.
Killgore picked up the win against Duncan.
Shawnee (11-15) returns to the McAlester Shootout Friday with a 1:45 p.m. tilt against Collinsville.
