The win improved the Lady Redskins to 3-3 in district play and 5-6 overall. Their only game remaining is against Harding Prep. Harding lost 1-0 to OCS Friday. They now also have a 3-3 record in district play just like Mc-Loud. The two play Monday at 5 p.m. with a playoff spot on the line.

McLoud’s Lady Redskins got a win they needed to keep their playoff hopes alive Friday night.

McLoud had to move the game to the Acme Fields in Shawnee due to heavy rain Thursday making their field unplayable.

They battled Newkirk to a 0-0 tie at the half. In the second half, both teams had chances to score, but only McLoud found the back of the net.

Ryane Taber had two great chances toward the beginning of the second half. She had a great look and pushed a shot just a bit to the right of the goal on one shot and she beat the keeper and had an open goal. Taber raced a Newkirk defender to the ball. The two collided right at the goal line but the defender was able to poke the ball just out of Taber’s reach to keep the game scoreless.

A few minutes later, Taber got behind the defense and turned to shoot. She beat the keeper to the near corner to give the Lady Redskins a 1-0 lead.

McLoud keeper Ashley Sohoenecke had a fortunate break and made a great save to preserve the win. On one Newkirk shot, the ball ricocheted off the crossbar and back in front of the goal. McLoud was able to clear that opportunity but on another Newkirk shot, sophomore Sohoenecke made a diving save to keep her sheet clean.
