A 26-year-old woman arrested over the weekend remained jailed Monday night on a complaint of shooting with intent to kill in connection with a shooting incident in Dale. Bond is set at $500,000.

Jail records show Kayla Rene Lake, 26, was booked into the Pottawatomie County Public Safety Center Saturday evening. Bond was set during an initial court appearance Monday and her next court date is set for May 6. Formal charges have not been filed.

Pottawatomie County Sheriff's Deputies investigated the shooting at a residence in the Dale area Saturday evening. Sheriff Mike Booth said deputies responded to that scene about 6:05 p.m. after gunshots were reported in the area.

Booth said Jeremy Ray Merriman, 37, suffered a gunshot wound to the chest. He transported to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City, where he was admitted in critical condition Saturday evening, Booth reported. Monday evening, a nurse supervisor at the hospital reported Merriman had been upgraded to good condition.

Booth said Merriman, who is from Oklahoma City, was able to tell deputies Saturday night that he was shot while he was sleeping. A motive for the shooting remains under investigation by deputies, but Investigator Scott Hawkins said Monday they have learned that Merriman didn't really know the female suspect.

Once the probe is complete, case reports will be turned over the District Attorney's office for consideration of any formal charges.
