VARNUM — A solo home run by Martell Davis in the bottom of the eighth inning allowed Varnum to nip Tecumseh 7-6 Monday.

Davis also clubbed a three-run roundtripper in the second inning and finished with a game-high five runs batted in off a 3-for-3 performance.

Davis also pitched the final two innings, permitting just one hit and registering four strikeouts.

Jayden Shafer led Tecumseh’s eight-hit attack with three singles. Teammate Peyton Cooper added two singles and a sacrifice fly.

Bubba Boyd of Varnum doubled as part of a 3-for-4 outing.

Both squads employed four pitchers with Davis earning the victory.

Tecumseh, 21-11, will see district action this week but coach Jeff Shafer said he hadn’t received the locale information.

Varnum, ranked ninth in Class B, upped its record to 24-9.
