Jack Dawson, 89, a lifelong resident of Shawnee, passed away on Monday, June 10, 2019, at a Shawnee hospital.

Jack Dawson, 89, a lifelong resident of Shawnee, passed away on Monday, June 10, 2019, at a Shawnee hospital.

He was born to William E. and Iva King Dawson on March 1, 1930, in St.Louis,Oklahoma.

As a sophomore, Jack’s family moved to Shawnee where he graduated with the SHS Class of 1947.

While at Shawnee High School, he met the love of his life, Rosemary Giles Dawson, and they were happily married for 66 years.

He participated in baseball and basketball and was selected to the 1947 All-State basketball team. He was inducted into the Shawnee High School Basketball Hall of Fame in 2016.

After high school, he served his country in Europe and played on baseball and basketball service teams. On returning home, he worked as a welder and machinist at Shawnee Steel Company and Worthington Pump. He enjoyed coaching youth baseball and basketball teams in the community and impacted many young ball players. Jack and Rosie were big fans of both state universities and enjoyed watching their two sons play football for the Oklahoma State Cowboys and Oklahoma Sooners respectively.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Rosie Dawson, grandson Ryan Dawson, twin sister Jackie Lusk, sisters Rosemary Briggs and Wanda Burton and one brother Billy Dawson.

He is survived by his sons Chris Dawson of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Scott Dawson and Cathy Dawson of Shawnee, grandson Facundo Dawson, granddaughters Alyssa Dawson and Kenzi Lopez as well as numerous nephews and nieces.
