Guy Ellsworth “Scrub” Parris, a lifelong resident of Shawnee, passed from this life on Wednesday, June 19, 2019.

He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served from 1942 to 1945 with the 10th armored division, where he received numerous awards and merits.

He loved sitting on his country porch and watching life and wildlife pass by his front door in his later years.

He and Jerri married July 11, 1944, and were married for 56 years and raised their six children until her death in 2000.

He was preceded in his death by his parents, Guy and Hazel Parris, his wife, Jerri, and son, Harold Parris, also his brothers and sisters: Frank Nicholas, Clarence Parris, Cecil Parris, Fontella Eddy, Margaret Stubbs and Nadine Hileman.

He is survived by three sons and spouses: Gary and Doyla Parris of Shawnee, Larry and Glenda Parris of Shawnee, and James Parris of Shawnee; along with two daughters and son-in law: Kathryn and David Fischer of Denton, Texas, and Becky Parris of Broken Arrow. He also leaves behind 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m., Saturday, June 22, at Resthaven Funeral Home in Shawnee. Burial to follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.
