A person of interest being sought in connection with a double homicide investigation in Stroud was taken into custody Tuesday evening on a DUI complaint, authorities said, but the murder investigation is ongoing.
The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation and Stroud Police Department are investigating the double homicide that occurred in the 500 block of West 10th Street in Stroud.
The OSBI reports Shawn Pittman, 39, is a person of interest in the deaths of his parents, Pauletta Pittman, 63, and Mark Pittman, 65.
The couple was discovered dead inside their home after Pauletta's coworker called police because she didn't show up for work Tuesday morning.
OSBI investigators began looking for Shawn Pittman as a person of interest in the investigation because he was living in the home, investigators reported.
Just after 5 p.m. Tuesday afternoon, the OSBI said investigators received a call that a Sienna minivan matching the description of the one owned by Pauletta was at a gas station in Stroud for gas and then a second call reported that the mini-van had left the gas station.
Based on the information, Stroud officers located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop, the OSBI released, and discovered Shawn Pittman was driving the mini-van.
He was taken into custody and arrested on a complaint of DUI, the OSBI said, and was being held at the jail in Stroud Tuesday night. Formal charges have not been filed.
The investigation into the Pittman murders is ongoing and the OSBI said a cause of death for the victims has not yet been determined by the state Medical Examiner's Office.
