Shawnee Milling Co. has a large expansion project underway; cranes are in the process of installing multiple storage bins over the next few weeks. So far a handful of 50-foot-tall storage bins have been mounted atop the third floor — once finished, there will be 26 new bins onsite — 20 can hold up to 76,000 pounds of finished product; the six larger ones will each have the capacity to store 150,000 pounds.
Shawnee Milling Co. President Joe Ford said a 50-ton crane and a 350-ton crane are needed for installation of the large containers.
After all the bins are in place, electrical and mechanical equipment will still have to be put in place to make the whole project operational.
Ford said a storage warehouse also is being added on the north side for packing and ingredients.
Everything could be up and running hopefully by late March or April, he said.
It's the mill's largest expansion since the late '90s, Ford said.
