The Oklahoma Highway Patrol reports a two-vehicle accident along U.S. 177 near Macomb resulted in injuries early Friday morning.

The accident occurred about 1 a.m. on southbound U.S. 177, just north of SH 59B in Pottawatomie County

A 1993 Chevrolet Astrovan driven by Wilma Lockner, 70, of Shawnee, and a 2010 Toyota Tundra driven by Justin Melton, 31, Macomb, were both southbound on U.S. 177, the patrol said.

Both vehicles were in the outside lane in a passing zone, the patrol said. As a semi was passing the Astrovan, Lockner applied the brakes. Troopers said Melton's vehicle was following to close and struck the Astrovan, which continue southbound until it departed the roadway to the left and stopped in a ditch, with the Toyota also stopping in a ditch.

Lockner was transported by REACT EMS TO SSM Health St. Anthony Hospital Shawnee, then transferred to to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City, where she was dAdmitted in critical condition with arm and trunk internal injuries.

Her passenger, Ethal Lonelodge, 77, of Asher, OK, was treated for unspecified injuries and released. 

Melton refused medical at the scene.

Cause of the collision was following too closely. It was raining at the time of the accident; seat belts were in use.
