Former Shawnee resident Terry Lynn Peltier, 70, passed away Friday, Sept. 6, 2019, in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Former Shawnee resident Terry Lynn Peltier (Native American Name: M’Ko Wabje’ge (Bear Watching Over), 70, passed away Friday, Sept. 6, 2019, in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Visitation will be at Walker Funeral Service on Friday from 5 to 7 p.m.

Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 14, at St. Benedict Catholic Church with burial to follow at Tecumseh Cemetery.

Terry was born Feb. 16, 1949, in Shawnee to Raymond Paul Peltier and Mildred Frances (Thacker) Peltier.

He graduated from Dale High School and attended Murray State in Tishomingo and served four years in the United States Navy.

He married Cynthia (Schoolmeyer) on April 25, 1998.

He worked for the Citizen Potawatomi Nation in the Transportation Dept. and later the Housing Authority for 14 years and had recently moved back to New Orleans. He enjoyed his job as a DJ at parties and on the radio, he was an avid O.U. football fan, and was a gifted wood carver.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife: Cynthia Peltier of New Orleans; three children: Tracy Peltier of Shawnee, Terry Don Peltier and wife Amber of Prague, and Brandee Smith and husband Bret of Shawnee; grandchildren: Logan, Joshua, and Mason Peltier, Austin Peltier and wife Kaitlyn, Kylie, Jorja, and Talon Peltier, Layla and Atticus Smith; one brother: Darel Grothaus; step-children: Vicki (Heiss) Sullivan, Henry Arthur Heiss, Gretchen Lynn Heiss; step-grandchildren: Hank Heiss, Hugh Heiss, Casey Sullivan, and Lauren Sullivan; and several other family members and friends.
