A Ponca City man was killed in a crash around 10:07 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4 on U.S. 177 about 0.1 miles north of Westech Road, four miles northwest of Shawnee.
According to Shayne Ballard of the Traffic Homicide Unit, Harvey Pruett, 81, crashed his 1995 Ford F250 into an unoccupied 1998 Flatbed Wrecker parked in the roadway, which was attempting to divert traffic from a previous collision that occurred and blocked the roadway.
In his report, Ballard said Pruett was pronounced dead at the scene by REACT EMS and transported by Alpha & Omega Funeral Home to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Oklahoma City.
Pruett said the condition of the driver is under investigation and the cause of the collision is also under investigation.
Whether or not seat belts were in use is under investigation, as well, the reports shows, air bags were not deployed. The weather was clear, the roadway was dry and Pruett was pinned for approximately 30 minutes.
Ballard said he was assisted by Lt. Kyle Winrow, Trooper Matt Snyder of Pottawatomie County Detachment of Troop A, Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Office, Kickapoo Tribal Police and the Shawnee Fire Department.
