LOOKEBA ——Sixth-ranked Asher claimed the Class B regional tournament title at Lookeba-Sickles Friday with victories over 10th-ranked Oilton, 16-1, and second-ranked Lookeba-Sickles, 6-1.
Coach Scott Hamilton’s Asher squad will oppose Vici at 1:30 Thursday in the opening round of the state tournament at Dolese Park’s Palmer Field in northwest Oklahoma City.
Top-seeded Red Oak and McCurtain will launch the day at 11 a.m. In the other side of the bracket, Varnum will take on Lookeba-Sickles at 4 and Tupelo will meet Leedey at 6:30.
“We played very tough Friday in what I consider a hard place to play — on the road at Lookeba-Sickles,” Hamilton said. “We got great pitching and had some very timely big hits. We started this fall at 2-6 but have now gone 13-5 against a brutal schedule. We are honored to make it to the state tournament.”
Against Lookeba-Sickles, Trevor Martin was overwhelming, striking out 17 batters in 6 2/3 innings. Lookeba-Sickles had just three hits and its run was unearned.
Asher compiled 11 hits with Trevor Martin, Bryson Martin, Jake Dobbs and Michal Mcdonald posting two apiece. Patch Hamilton, Bryson Martin, Trevor Martin and Mcdonald doubled.
The Indians registered 16 hits against Oilton as Patch Hamilton posted two doubles and a sacrifice fly en route to six runs batted in.
Bryson Martin had two doubles, a single and three runs batted in. Mcdonald had three hits, including a double, and Ryan Reeser doubled and singled. Dobbs chipped in with three singles.
Pitcher Bryson Martin fashioned a seven-inning three hitter with nine strikeouts.
The Indians warmed up for the state tourney with a 5-4 triumph at Calera Monday as Dobbs, Hamilton and Mcdonald shared the pitching duties.
Cameron Grissom doubled for Asher.
Calera will oppose Dale at 4 p.m. Thursday at Yukon in opening-round action of the Class A state tournament.
