Shawnee senior Ashlyn Oliver is a leader at Shawnee High School and maintains an almost perfect GPA.
She has been selected as one of The Shawnee News-Star and Patriot Auto Group Students of the Month for September and is now in the running to win a car.
“She is always willing to help and volunteers regularly to be involved with committees,” Shawnee High School Assistant Principal Ray Shaffer said. “She is very caring and reliable to help others.”
He said she is involved with the Tri-Hi-Y program, works with Community Renewal and helps maintain the community garden in Shawnee.
“I have known Ashlyn for the past three years as I have been her principal here at SHS,” he said. “During this time, I have witnessed the impact Ashlyn has made on SHS and in our community.”
He said he has also witnessed her growth and success in leadership and academics.
“Ashlyn is one of the most selfless, generous and self-motivating students I know,” he said. “She sets very high goals and expectations for herself and works extremely hard to meet those goals.”
A Student Council member since she was a freshman, Oliver has been honored with a leadership award for Rotary Club, Masonic Student of the Year Award, is a National Honor Society member and is on the honor roll.
Among opportunities to volunteer, she has served at the South Rock Creek Turkey Dinner, helps with SHS food pantry and reads to elementary students at Horace Mann, Shaffer said.
“She has tremendous moral characteristics by being dependable, reliable, respectful, honest and caring,” he said.
Oliver currently maintains a 3.86 GPA.
