Senior Gayle Blackwell is a leader at Prague High school and maintains a perfect 4.0 GPA.

She has been selected as one of The Shawnee News-Star and Patriot Auto Group Students of the Month for September and is now in the running to win a car.

“She is an extremely intelligent young lady,” Prague High School Guidance Counselor Stephanie Lee said.

She is kind and caring toward all adults and students, Lee said.

Blackwell has a passion for the medical field, she said.

“She has volunteered almost 400 hours in the St. Anthony's Junior Volunteer program,” Lee said.

Blackwell is a member of Shawnee We Care (Community Renewal), Rachel's Challenge, and the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls.

“She's obtained 1,619 volunteer hours,” Lee said.

According to Blackwell's grades, she is on track to be one of Prague's valedictorians this year, Lee said.

“Gayle was one of five to receive an academic letter jacket,” she said. “She has received the President's Award for Educational Excellence, Superior Ranking at District and State Ensemble Competitions in band, inducted into the National Honor Society, chosen to attend the High School Leadership Conference at the University of Oklahoma and the International Leadership Conference for Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA).”

Lee said Blackwell comes from a single-parent home.

“Gayle realizes her mother's sacrifice and hopes to give back to her mom through earning her medical degree,” Lee said. “She is very appreciative of everything her mom has done for her and her sister.”

Lee said Blackwell is always eager to help with any need the school or community has.
