Pottawatomie County Commissioners accepted the resignation of Steve Clifton from the Free Fair Board and appointed Gary Barnett to finish his term until January of 2020 in their regular meeting Monday, Nov. 18.

According to Free Fair Board member Randy Gilbert, Clifton chose to resign because his duties and involvement on the Board were interfering with his job.

"His job has gotten to where it takes quite a bit more of his time...Steve has been a long time Fair Board member and has done a really great job," Gilbert said. "He was very regretful and hated to resign, but he just thought it would be better for the Fair Board and also for his employment."

In Clifton's place will be Barnett, who Gilbert said has been a friend to the Free Fair Board for quite a while.

"Gary Barnett has been a long time supporter of the Fair Board...He's a tremendous volunteer," Gilbert said. "Gary is excited. He knows he will fill the term of Steve...We're very excited for Gary to come on."

Gilbert explained in January there will be another election, Barnett intends to run and Gilbert said he believes Barnett will be appointed for the next term.
