But, of 75 Shawnee restaurants called, unsurprisingly, most will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 28 — Thanksgiving Day — this year.
However, for those non-social, non-cooking or non-gathering families — and early Black Friday shoppers — there are more than a few eateries remaining open.
The old standbys — Denny's, at 4903 N. Harrison; IHOP, at 185 W. Interstate Parkway; and Cracker Barrel, at 27 W. Interstate Parkway — as usual, are open and ready to serve customers over the holiday.
Several fast-food chains have also confirmed to be on the open list. Holding to regular operating hours are Whataburger, at 4836 N. Kickapoo; Freddie's Frozen Custard and Steakburgers, at 4520 Marketplace Blvd.; Buffalo Wild Wings, (Shawnee Mall) at 4901 N. Kickapoo; and China Buffet, at 1710 N. Harrison.
The Taco Bell at 1416 N. Harrison reports it will be closed during the day, but will open at 5 p.m. and remain open through the next (Black Friday) evening's regular closing time.
American Pizza, at 2122 N. Kickapoo, is set to be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Golden Corral, 2513 N. Harrison, will close at 8 p.m.
Though Qdoba, at 4621 N. Kickapoo, will be closed, the restaurant is available for catering that day for those who call ahead, at (405) 395-2642.
Marco's Pizza, at 2001 N. Harrison, is set to be open from 4 p.m. to close.
Both the Grandstand Sports Grille and Grand Cafe at the Grand Casino and Resort, 777 Grand Casino Blvd., report plans to be open, though the cafe will close at 11 a.m.
The restaurant inside Thunderbird Casino, at 2051 S. Gordon Cooper Drive, intends to serve customers between 3 p.m. and 1 a.m.
Some of the restaurants called weren't even sure yet themselves if their doors would remain open. Websites and Facebook are easy ways to monitor if a favorite food place is going to be available.
