LUTHER —Second-ranked (Class 2A) Dale smothered Luther 81-53 Tuesday as five Pirates scored in double figures.

Senior Trae Thompson fueled the scoring explosion with 20 points. Ike Shirey deposited 17 with Carter Crowe, Dallen Forsythe and Palmer Jones finishing with 10 apiece.

Crowe and Shirey put in two 3-point shots apiece.

Dale (7-1) knocked down 16-of-26 charity tosses while Luther was 7-of-16. Shirey was 5-of-7 at the line.

“It was a good win,” Dale coach Jeff Edmonson said. “I am very proud of their effort. We play hard every night and they share the ball.”

Dale coach Eric Smith employed 18 players and 10 scored in the blowout.

Lindy Nowakowski chalked up three 3-pointers en route to a team-high 17 points. Elaine Witt added 13 points and Makenzie Gill chipped in with 12.

Libby Johnson, McClure and Witt had one 3-pointer each.

“We came ready to play,” Dale coach Eric Smith said. “The bench was really good for us.”

Both Dale teams will play Friday night at Christian Heritage.
