BETHEL – Bethel High School senior Gunner Smith was named Quarterback of the Year, senior teammate Devin Acklin was chosen Co-Receiver of the Year and senior Kaden Stiles was selected as Co-Defensive Lineman of the Year as the 2019 3A-2 All-District Football Team was recently released.

Two other Wildcats were named to the All-District First Team for offense. Senior Jaylon Gordon was picked as a receiver and senior Cole Dyer as an offensive lineman.

Four other Bethel players – senior linebacker Cache Hankins, defensive back Keaton Robinson, linebacker Nathan Sanchez and kicker Alex Brown - made honorable mention.

Smith threw for 3,331 yards and 37 touchdowns while only being intercepted nine times. He was 214-of-348 passing for a 61% completion rate.

Acklin had 64 catches for 1,002 yards and 13 touchdowns for the Wildcats and, on the defensive side of the ball, Stiles registered 60 tackles (39 solo) with 11 tackles for loss, one quarterback sack and two caused fumbles.

Gordon ended the season with 16 receptions for 214 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Hankins, at linebacker, rang up 124 tackles (71 solo) and had 13 tackles for lost yards to go with one quarterback sack, two forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries.

As a defensive back, Robinson posted 37 tackles (23 solo) and two passes defensed.

Sanchez, at linebacker, totaled 53 tackles (19 solo) with a tackle for loss and a quarterback sack.

As a kicker, Brown scored 44 points on the year as he converted 80% of his point-after-kicks and two field goals, with the longest being 27 yards.
