ARLINGTON, Texas – Former Dale High School basketball star Claire Chastain has scored in double figures in six of the University of Texas-Arlington's 11 games this season.

Chastain, a 6-foot sophomore, is averaging 10.5 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.7 assists for the 6-5 Mavericks. That 10.5 scoring average is second-best on the squad.

Her best scoring output was 22 points on 8-of-15 shooting, including 3-of-5, in a loss to Louisville. She also had double-digit scoring outings against North Texas (12 points), Grambling State (12), Kansas State (14), Oregon (10) and Marist (17).

Her best rebounding game was nine in the season opener against Chicago State and her best assist effort was four against North Texas.

As a freshman in 2018-19, Chastain averaged 9.5 rebounds, 2.9 boards and 1.0 assists for UTA.

At Dale High School, she was named to the Small East All-State Team. She scored more than 1,000 points during her career with the Lady Pirates and was part of three state tournament teams.

Chastain was also named to all-tournament teams at the Oklahoma Baptist University Bison Invitational in Shawnee and the Bertha Frank Teague Mid-America Classic in Ada.

The next action for Chastain and the Mavericks will be Monday, Dec. 30, against Texas Southern at 7 p.m. at the College Park Center in Arlington.
