MEEKER— Stampede. The Jones Longhorns basketball teams stormed into Meeker and took a pair of decisive wins over the Senior Night Bulldog squads.

The Class 3A second-ranked Lady Longhorns improved their record to 23-1 with the 76-28 win over the Lady Bulldogs before the Longhorns downed Meeker 64-36.

The Lady Longhorns showed why they are ranked second in Class 3A in the opener with a balanced inside-outside offensive attack. They opened with four three-pointers in the first quarter, taking an 18-10 lead, then went inside to do damage with Trinity Moore in the second. Moore scored 10 points in the second quarter helping to build the Jones lead to 36-19 at the half.

Meeker did show signs of life in the first half, keeping the score respectable. Kaitlyn Culp provided a spark for Meeker off of the bench in the second quarter and came up with back-to-back steal and lay ups to cut into the Lady Longhorn lead of 34-19 with a minute left.

The third quarter was all Jones. They scored 27 points and did damage all over the court. They out-scored the Lady Bulldogs 27-6 and cruised to a 63-25 lead.

Moor finished with a game-high 21 points for Jones and Alex Farmer added 16. Bailey Ely scored a dozen for the Lady Longhorns.

Madison Hedge led Meeker with 14 points. Culp finished with five on the night.

In the boy’s game, an ice-cold start by the Bulldogs spelled their doom.

The Longhorns took a 15-2 lead after the first quarter and built it 32-8 at the half.

The Jones defense held Meeker to just three field goals in the half. Kade Brewster and Caleb Chapman each hit treys in the second quarter.

The second half was much more competitive, as the Bulldogs found some offensive rhythm and a hot hand by Cade Patterson. Patterson hit three bombs in the third quarter, but Jones’ Corbin Talley had an answer. Talley scored 12 of his game-high 23 points in the third quarter, helping Jones take a 52-24 lead into the final quarter.

Both teams scored 12 points in the final quarter.

Talley was the only Longhorn to reach double figures. Elijah Reed scored nine for Jones while Strong Moore and Ory Gaul each chipped in with eight.

Patterson led Meeker with 11 points while Xavier Masquas finished with seven.

The losses to Jones ended the regular season for Meeker, but the Bulldog crew will have new life starting Saturday night. They will travel to face Prague, Saturday night in district play.

The Lady Bulldogs will play at 6:30 pm followed by the boy’s at eight o’clock.
