VARNUM – Alex Barry scored 14 points and Riley Johnson added 12 Thursday as the Macomb Hornets whipped the Paoli Pugs, 52-30, in a Class B boys regional elimination game.
Macomb, 12-14 on the season, opened up a 16-11 lead through one quarter and went on an 11-6 run in the second in establishing a 27-17 halftime advantage. The Hornets then blew the game open with a 15-3 third quarter to pull away.
Alex Barry, who knocked down two treys in the game, did all of his scoring in the first and third quarters alone. He tallied eight in the first and six in the third. Johnson had 10 of his points in the opening half.
Brett Barry added seven points, including one trey, and Donald Akens ended up with five points, including one 3-point bucket, for Macomb.
The Hornets will face Butner today in a 3 p.m. regional consolation play at Bridge Creek.
