The Shawnee Rotary Club was recently awarded a grant to improve their community. They were awarded $2,575 through the 2019-2020 District Grant Program and they matched that amount from their own funds. The program allows Rotarians the opportunity to use district designated funds to undertake projects either in their own communities or in other countries. The Shawnee Rotary Club decided to install bike racks as their project.

“The Shawnee Rotary Club has been receptive to the needs of changing and growing community,” says Rotarian Lynn Pharoah. “So, we responded by placing bike racks across town in a variety of useful locations.”

Through careful consideration and weighing the needs of the community, the Rotary Club selected several locations around town for the installation of the bike racks. Rotarians Lynn Pharoah, Charlotte Barnett, Larry Gill, Ron Cunningham, Jada Young, Randy Jones, Brandon Bell, Brandon Loeser, and current president Randy Waters installed the racks. The locations include Homeland grocery stores, Rotary/Boy Scout Park, Dean Weigant Park, Optimist Park, Mihura Park, the Shawnee Housing Authority, and the Shawnee YMCA.

Rotary is a worldwide organization of more than 1.2 million people. Rotarians provide humanitarian service and help build goodwill and peace in the world. The Shawnee Rotary Club meets weekly on Tuesdays.
