Curtis Ray Turner
Earlsboro - Curtis Ray Turner, long time Earlsboro resident, passed away Thursday, January 7, 2021, at the age of 70, in Shawnee, Oklahoma.
He was born June 5, 1950 in Childress, Texas to Odell and Martha Turner. The family relocated often due to job opportunities, but Curtis spent most of his childhood being raised in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma and then his high school years were spent in Moore, Oklahoma, where he graduated high school in 1969.
He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps from October 1969 to October 1973. During which time he completed tours in The Vietnam War. After being honorably discharged from the Marines, he joined the Oklahoma Army National Guard in January, 1976 where he would continue to serve his country until May 1997. During which times he held multiple ranks, wore many different hats, and guided and shaped the military careers of some of Oklahoma's finest Soldiers. He was most fond of the years he spent with the TOW unit, Company C, 2nd Battalion 180th Infantry, stationed in Shawnee, Oklahoma as their unit 1st. Sergeant where he became lovingly referred to as TOP.
Curtis married Linda Sue Barnard on October 8, 1971 in Moore, Oklahoma. They spent the first years of their marriage stationed at Camp LeJeune, North Carolina and later relocated to Earlsboro where they raised their family and where he later retired from Tinker Air Force Base in 2003 after a 27 year career there as well.
Curtis is survived by his two children, Curtis "Michael" Turner and Trisha Whitman. He is also survived by grandsons Mason and Madux Whitman as well as his father Odell Turner. All from the Earlsboro area. His sisters, Diana and husband Bobby Smith of Moore, Oklahoma, and Sharon and husband Kenneth Gunter also of Moore, Oklahoma. Sister in Law Diann Pospisil and brother in law Terry Barnard also from Moore, Oklahoma. 12 nieces and nephews and 27 great-nieces and nephews. As well as a host of family and military brothers in arms to great to mention.
He was preceded in death in 2017 by his wife of 46 years, Linda. His mother Martha Turner. In-laws Joseph and Genevie Barnard. Brother in law Richard Pospisil. Brother and sister in law David and Cheryl Freed.
A celebration of his life will take place Saturday, January 16, 2021 at 2:00pm. At Praise Assembly of God, 2301 E Highland, Shawnee Oklahoma. His remains will be interned at a later date at the Fort Sill National Cemetery in Elgin, Oklahoma.
