Shirley Ann Hurst Scott
Tecumseh - Shirley Ann Hurst Scott, 83, of Tecumseh, OK was born in Eufaula, OK, on January 15, 1938, to Robert Lucien Hurst and Flora Etta Hurst. On January 30, 2021, she transitioned to her Heavenly home, greeted by her Savior, Jesus Christ. The oldest of six children, Shirley helped her parents care for her siblings and thought of each of them as her own. Shirley attended Tecumseh Schools. She was the owner/operator of Shirley's Beauty Shop in Tecumseh for many years. Later she went to work for General Motors in Oklahoma City and retired from there. After retirement she enjoyed going to and having garage sales. Her keen eye for antiques and especially glassware led her to acquire a beautiful collection of Depression glass. Her grandchildren were bright lights in her world. She was always checking to see if they were okay and if they needed a ride or something to eat. Almost every Friday evening she would take one of them (rotation) to McDonald's for a Happy Meal and to Kmart for a small toy. Shirley was also musically gifted. Although she didn't read music, she played the piano, organ, accordion, and the mandolin. She played in churches where her parents and family served as pastors. Her most precious memory of using her gift was to play the piano for the children in the children's ministry. She loved helping them learn songs of Jesus and to prepare for various programs. She was a member of Bethel Acres Assembly. Shirley was preceded in death by her father and mother, brothers, Edward, Robert, and Ronnie Hurst. Left to cherish her memory are her son, Montey Guest of Tecumseh, daughter and son-in-law, Ronda and Larry Townsend of Tecumseh, grandchildren, Jeremy Guest and wife Brittany, Tulsa, OK, Kesha Guest Adams and husband Travis, Alabama, Amy Townsend Morris and husband Nick of Branson, MO, Lucien Townsend, Shelby Townsend, and Max Guest of Tecumseh. Her great grandchildren are Kylan Townsend, Kinzley Townsend, Case Townsend, Shelton Townsend, Kyndall Guest, Tyson Guest, and Dakota Adams. She is also survived by her brother and sister in law, Lonnie and Linda Hurst, and her sister Judy Smith. She had many nieces, nephews, and friends. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Angelic Hospice, Oklahoma Oxygen, and SSM nurses and doctors for their care to Shirley in her final days on earth. Also involved in caring for her were her daughter, Ronda, granddaughter, Amy, and niece, Ronell Talley, who provided continual, round the clock devotion and care. Thank you to the drivers and staff at AAAA Wrecker Service of Oklahoma City who showed such kindness to her in the past few months as she came to work every day with her daughter. Thank you to Bethel Acres Assembly for loving Shirley these past few months as she attended services and needed an extra hand, for praying for the family, checking on her, and helping with meals. Grace Community Church has had her on their prayer list as well. These are the kindnesses that will not be forgotten and make the difficult seasons of life easier to bear. Visitation will be 12:00 noon to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 2, 2021 and continue through service time. Services will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday, February 3, 2021 at Cooper Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Larry Townsend and Lonnie Hurst. Burial will follow at Tecumseh Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh. The family respectfully asks that everyone attending wear a mask and practice social distancing.
