Shawnee - James (Jim) Monroe Pettyjohn went to be with his Lord, Tuesday, February 16th, 2021. He was born November 8, 1940, to Monroe and Barbara (Morris) Pettyjohn.
Jim graduated from Shawnee High School and was a pole vaulter on the track team.
He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Army.
Jim was greatly loved by his family and friends. He was known for his kindness and eagerness to help others. Jim was a faithful servant to the Central church of Christ in Shawnee, Oklahoma, where he had served as an elder for several years. He retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone in 1991, after 29 years.
Jim enjoyed hiking trails and mountains throughout multiple states and fishing ponds, lakes and rivers wherever he could cast a line.
He loved and poured his heart into the lives of his four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Those left to cherish his memory are: his wife of 62 years, Cathy (Cook) Pettyjohn; his daughter, Misty (Pettyjohn) Martin and husband Mike of McLoud; Monty Pettyjohn and wife Diana of Lubbock, TX; Sister, Carolyn Stephenson and husband Bill; brothers Robert Pettyjohn and wife Marty and Paul Pettyjohn and wife Kari; Grandsons, Austin Pettyjohn, Afton Martin, Tate Pettyjohn and Branson Martin and wife Taylor; great grandchildren, Grace and Maverick Martin; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Monroe and Barbara Pettyjohn.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 2:00pm at Northridge church of Christ, 1001 E. MacArthur St, Shawnee, OK.
