Elizabeth Peggy DeShields

Elizabeth Peggy Bowen DeShields, 91, will be laid to rest next to her husband Amos Jack DeShields at the Little Cemetery on Saturday, July 24, 2021 at 10:30 AM.

The only daughter in a sea of four brothers, she was born November 11, 1928 in Ada, Oklahoma to Simuel Archie and Etta Berthel (Flowers) Bowen. After her college graduation at the age of 18 in 1947 and with degrees in business and education from East Central University, she waited 30 years before adding a Master's degree in Counseling.

In her first teaching position, she met her husband Jack on the steps of Bearden High School. They were married two weeks later, for 65 years. Family and business were central throughout her life.

She is survived by two children, four grandsons and five great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, please make any donations to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF), searching for a cure for Type 1. A celebration of her life will be held later in California.

Serving as active pallbearers will be Taylor DeShields Hildreth, Mike DeShields, Aidan DeShields, Eric Bowen, Gary DeShields and Jeff Brown.

Honorary bearers include Alan DeShields, Greg Brown, Maetta Bowen Roadruck, Ladena Bowen Marshall, Kay DeShields, James Whisnant and Beverly DeShields Sharrock.

Services will be under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home, Okemah, Oklahoma.
