McLoud falters at charity stripe
McLOUD — Cole Garcia collected a game-high 19 points in a losing cause Tuesday night as Jones pulled off a 54-51 triumph over McLoud.
Jon Emami had 10 points for the Redskins.
McLoud, outscored 21-16 in the fourth quarter, missed the front end of four 1-and-1 free-throwssituations in the final eight minutes. The Redskins finished at 12 of 24 from the line.
McLoud will travel to Tecumseh Friday night.
Free-throw difficulties cost Lady Redskins
McLOUD — A 29-point explosion by small forward Kiara Lovings was too much for McLoud’s girls to overcome Tuesday night as Jones registered a 42-37 victory.
Lovings knocked down three shots from 3-point range and also stole an inbounds pass and hit a layup with :18 seconds left for the final 5-point margin.
McLoud was tied at 37 with a minute to play.
McLoud, 2-9, hit just 5 of its 17 free throws while Jones was 8 of 12. The Lady Redskins missed the front end of two 1-and-1 charity situations in the fourth quarter as they went 2 of 8.
Sophomore Katelyn Hoover was McLoud’s leading scorer with 13, followed by Meredith Turman with 6.
“Other than the free throws, we played solid,” said McLoud coach Doug Armstron. “We are very young but we are showing steady improvement.”
McLoud will play at Tecumseh Friday night as part of homecoming. The boys will play at 6:30, followed by the girls at 8.
