Zimmerman Named GAC Pitcher of the Week

RUSSELLVILLE, Arkansas – The Great American Conference Tuesday named Oklahoma Baptist’s Haylee Zimmerman its Softball Pitcher of the Week.

Zimmerman, a freshman from Rogers, Arkansas, threw a complete-game three-hit shutout to hand No. 5 Arkansas Tech its first conference loss and snapped its win streak at 19 games.

It was Zimmerman’s first college win.

Joyce Named GAC Player of the Week

RUSSELLVILLE, Arkansas – The Great American Conference Tuesday selected Oklahoma Baptist’s Ryan Joyce as its Baseball Player of the Week.

Joyce, a senior center fielder from Lake Forest, California, batted .778 with four home runs, eight RBI and six runs scored in OBU’s three-game sweep of Arkansas Tech. He had multiple hits, including at least one home run, in each game of the series.

Joyce slugged 2.111 in the sweep and took over the GAC with eight home runs on the season.

Ackerknecht, Shkot Earn NCCAA Honors

GREENVILLE, South Carolina – The National Christian College Athletic Association Tuesday named Oklahoma Baptist tennis players Thomas Ackerknecht and Kateryna Shkot its Men’s and Women’s Tennis Student-Athletes of the Week.

Ackerknecht, a sophomore from Antofagasta, Chile, was 4-0 in singles and 4-0 in doubles for the week against NAIA and NCAA III competition. His combined scores in singles came to 46-9 and he had a 32-11 mark in his four doubles wins.

Shkot went 3-0 in Nos. 1 and 2 singles and 3-0 in No. 1 doubles on the week and now stands 9-0 on the season in singles and 9-0 in doubles. The junior Kiev, Ukraine won singles this week by a combined 36-2 and doubles 24-5 for a total of 60-7 in games this week.
