ROFF — A two-run rally in the bottom of the seventh inning highlighted 10th-ranked Dale’s 3-2 victory over sixth-ranked Oktaha Friday at the Roff Tournament.
Blake McQuain launched the frame with a double into the left-center gap, then moved to third on Cooper Hunt’s sacrifice bunt. Gant Hathcock followed with a hard grounder to third. The third sacker looked McQuain back to third but overthrew the first sacker, with McQuain scoring to knot the game. Jake Bigham then ripped a double down the left field line, allowing the speedy Hathcock to score from first for the win.
Senior southpaw Tanner Herring earned the victory, surrendering three hits in seven innings. Herring fanned two and walked three.
“Tanner did a heck of a job,” Dale coach Jerry Sanford said. “He got his breaking ball over and changed speeds.”
Herring gave up an unearned run in the first and an earned fun in the fifth.
McQuain and Bigham finished with two hits apiece, leading Dale’s nine-hit attack. McQuain and Bryce Crawford had a double apiece.
Thursday night, Dale dropped a 12-8 decision to fourth-ranked Fort Cobb at the Roff Tournament.
Herring posted two hits against Fort Cobb, including a 3-run home run in the first inning. Also notching two hits for the Pirates were McQuain, Bigham and Crawford. Bigham posted a triple.
Dale, 5-5, will conclude Roff Tournament action at 11 a.m. Saturday against Wright City. The Pirates will entertain Byng Monday and travel to Ripley Tuesday. The Pirates will be part of the Latta Tournament next Thursday through Saturday.
