SEMINOLE — Seminole’s battle for a 32nd consecutive playoff berth took a hit Friday night with a 49-29 District 3A-4 setback to Lone Grove.
Seminole, 3-4 overall, fell to 1-2 in 3A-4. Lone Grove , 2-5 overall, moved to 2-2 in district action. Seminole is in fifth place in 3A-4.
The top four teams in the final district standings advance to postseason play.
Lone Grove finished with 321 total yards, just four more yards than the host Chieftains.
But special team mishaps and costly turnovers were Seminole’s undoings.
Lone Grove never trailed after taking a 15-0 first quarter lead on Colton Danker’s 62-yard scoring pass from Garrett Lemons.
Seminole’s only first-half scoring came on a 37-yard pass from quarterback Logan Long to Jordan Rodriguez. The visitors led 15-7 at halftime.
Lone Grove outscored Seminole 20-14 in the third quarter with Seminole’s touchdowns coming on a 6-yard Cameron Gunville run and a 75-yard interception return by Justin Hamilton.
Lone Grove held a 35-21 lead after three quarters.
Sophomore Jamon Dennis concluded Seminole’s scoring with a 5-yard run in the fourth quarter.
Gunville was Seminole’s leading rusher with 106 yards on 20 carries.
Seminole quarterback Logan Long connected on 14 of 27 aerials for 203 yards but was intercepted three times.
Rodriguez caught seven passes for 144 yards.
Seminole recorded 17 first downs to 16 for Lone Grove.
The Chieftains will continue district play Friday night at Pauls Valley.
