ELSAH, Ill. – St. Gregory’s Sabrina DeSantiago capped her season with a strong finish Saturday at the 37th annual NAIA Women’s Cross Country National Championships. The event was hosted at the North Farm Cross Country Course in Elsah, Ill.
Making her second straight appearance at nationals, the junior from Lubbock, Texas, posted a time of 19:13 to finish in the upper half (156th) of 334 competitors. DeSantiago was 22 seconds faster and 22 positions better than her showing last season on the big stage.
DeSantiago earned the nationals nod after placing 12th out of 66 runners at the SAC Championship meet on November 5. She came in at 19:08 that day.
For the fourth time in the last five years, British Columbia brought home the team title. Oklahoma City’s Aminat Olowora won individual honors, setting a new NAIA championship meet record by covering the 5K course in 16:24.
