OKARCHE — In an early-season battle of No. 1-ranked squads, Dale’s girls held off Okarche 54-50 Tuesday night.
Class 2A Dale received double-figure scoring from Dani Manning (19), Claire Chastain 13 and Taylor Thompson (11).
Dale, 4-0, was red hot from the free-throw line at 20 of 23, led by Manning at 8 of 8. Chastain was 9 of 10.
Okarche was 6 of 10 from the charity stripe.
Thompson knocked down three shots from 3-point range to go along with four assists.
Lady Pirate Hannah Ash, like Manning and Thompson a senior, added nine points and a team-high five rebounds.
Dale led 32-28 at halftime and 45-41 after three quarters. Manning and Chastain were forced to the bench with four fouls apiece with two minutes left in the third quarter.
“When we had to pull them for awhile, we had some girls step up,” Dale coach Josh Forsythe said. “Our man-to-man defense in the second half was probably the difference in the game. They had trouble finding good, open shots in the second half.”
Class A Okarche (3-1) received 17 points from Kinsey Neiderer.
Dale will entertain Bethel Friday night in a 6:30 tipoff.
