PURCELL — An ice-cold shooting night was too much for Tecumseh to overcome in a 39-32 season-opening setback to Purcell Tuesday night.

The Lady Savages connected on just 23.4 percent (11 of 47) of their shots from the field, including 7 of 35 from 2-point range.

Despite the shooting woes, Tecumseh led 16-12 at halftime, only to be outscored 14-6 in the third quarter.

K.J. Johnson was Seminole’s only double-figure scorer with 13. Five teammates had five points or less apiece.

Johnson had two of Tecumseh’s four 3-point field goals.

Jaden Webb and Haylee Swayze posted 13 points each for Purcell.

“We played really hard, but we couldn’t buy a bucket in the third quarter,” Tecumseh assistant coach Eldon Gentry said.

Tecumseh will launch its home season Friday night against Ada. Tipoff is 6:30.
