SHAWNEE – Oklahoma Baptist saw a 21-point lead turn into a one-point deficit before pulling the plug on Arkansas Tech’s rally for a 93-87 win Thursday.
It was the first loss of the season for Arkansas Tech.
Chandler Rickey scored 25 points, Steven Green added 24 points, 15 rebounds and five assists, Travon Moore scored 15 and Kevin Franceschi added 12 for the Bison. Vladimir Nemcok had a season-best 10 assists.
OBU led 52-45 at the half and used a 19-5 run to start the second half, gaining a 71-50 edge with 14:54 left in the game. Rickey had 10 points and Green six in that spree.
The Wonder Boys rallied to take an 85-84 lead over the next 10 minutes.
Tech missed their next four shots before Rickey answered inside for an 86-85 OBU lead with 3:04 left in the game.
Arkansas Tech took the lead once more, 87-86, but the Bison defense stiffened and shut out the Wonder Boys for the final 2:17 while the Bison got a dunk by Franceschi, a back-breaking three-pointer by Green and a pair of free throws from Rickey.
“We have the ability to make every game high drama. It got away from us a little bit, but we made some big, tough strong plays,” said OBU Coach Quinn Wooldridge. “That was a huge moment for us there.”
Now 2-3 on the season and 1-2 in the Great American Conference, the Bison host Harding at 3 p.m., Saturday.
