Gunner Bender, Shawnee’s 285-pound entrant, won by injury default over Gage Johnson in the final match to give the Wolves a 36-33 victory over Norman North Tuesday night.

Johnson was knocked out in a collision between the two wrestlers.

Also posting victories for Shawnee were Issac Bertram (106), Donavan Bertram (120), Iziah Wood ((126), Caleb McLaurin (182) and TJ Hickey (220).

Issac Bertram, Donavan Bertram and McLaurin pinned their opponents for a combined 18 team points.

“It’s like I told the guys after the match. Sometimes crazy things happen and tonight we happened to be on the right side of it,” Shawnee coach Larry James said. “I feel for Gage Johnson. I hope he is OK.

“But with that being said, what won the match for us tonight was staying off our back when we had several opportunities to give up. Something we have been preaching the last two weeks finally happened tonight. We only gave up 3 falls and one was when we got caught in a flury.”
