EARLSBORO – The Lady Wildcats kept pace with Gracemont At the start of Saturday's District final at Earlsboro, but it didn't take long before things got out of hand in the 72-32 loss.
Down 7-0, Abbey McCarroll made the first bucket of the game for the Lady Wildcats before allowing Gracemont to go on a 5-0 run. McCarroll hit a layup and Katy Bohannon dropped a trey to close out the first quarter with a 12-7 difference.
Casey Clark hit a triple with 7:15 left in the half to make it a two possession game, but a 17-0 run cut off any comeback in the first half and the teams went to the break with a 38-15 difference in favor of the Lady Lions.
The Lady Wildcats came out of the half on the receiving end of a 6-5 run and gave up a 12-2 run to end the third.
Clark hit a 3-pointer and made two free throw attempts for a 5-4 run to start the fourth, but the girls were unable to cut deeply into the lead.
Clark led the Wildcats with 16 points and four 3-pointers and McCarroll and Bohannon each had six. Gracemont's Jacie Stinson led all scorers with 21 points.
As the runner-up in District 5, the 2-21 Lady Wildcats continue on to play the District 8 runner-up Thursday at 1:30 at Elgin in the Region D consolation bracket.
